Srinagar, August 02 (KNO) : Two students and three teachers from Institute of Technology, University of Kashmir have invented a carbon monoxide detection and ventilation system while their patent has recently got published in patent journal of India. The invention relates generally to a window opening and closing system and more particularly to a carbon monoxide activated gas heater closing system for homeowners with a means to ensure that dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are not built in their homes. The group includes Manan Sajad Malik a B-tech 6th semester student, Farhana Fayaz Batoo a B-tech 4th semester student, Er Rouf ul alam Bhat Assistant professor, IOT Zakura campus, Jahangeer, CEO Kashovatics, M-tech embedded systems five times gold medalist in international innovation fair, pursuing PG diploma in PI and ML at University of Texas Austin USA and Dr Mueed Hafiz, Assistant professor IOT zakura campus. Manan Sajad Malik while talking with news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that directly affects our internal system, can lead to brain hemorrhage, causes chronic lungs diseases, intrauterine hypoxia, serious neurological damage, nausea, dizziness and other fatal diseases. “In Kashmir dozens of people have died due to suffocation while keeping gas bukharis on for the night during winters,” he said, adding that keeping in view all these things, there was a need for a convenient way so that people won't face such problems. Malik said that the present invention provides a sensor on the exterior of a gas heater. The sensor is configured to measure carbon monoxide levels in a room where the gas heater is installed and operating. “The present invention provides a carbon monoxide detection and ventilation system that comprises a first actuator attached between a gas cylinder and a gas heater, a first RF module coupled to the gas heater, a sensor coupled to the gas heater, a second actuator coupled to a window, and a second RF module coupled to the window,” Malik said. He said that the system is configured to activate the first actuator to stop a gas flow between the gas cylinder and the gas heater in response to detection of the carbon monoxide level being increased above a threshold level. “The first RF module coupled to the gas heater transmits a signal to the second RF module coupled to the window. The second RF module is configured to turn on the second actuator coupled to the window. The second actuator is configured to open the window to reduce the carbon monoxide level inside the room,” Malik said. “In one exemplary embodiment, the carbon monoxide detection and ventilation system is configured to activate a buzzer coupled to the gas heater to alert the user that the carbon monoxide level inside the room is high,” he said, adding, "object of the present invention is to avoid fatal consequences in the enclosed house where ventilation is relatively poor and the gas heater is operating continuously. Malik said that it will prevent people from intentionally harming themselves by exposing themselves to poisonous fumes. (KNO)
